Objectives of the Hastings Progress League NOVEL UNDERTAKING In promoting tho Chinese Fajr, which is to be held in Hasting.? on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, tho Hastings and District Progress League is actuated by several motives, which, if given effect to, would be to considerable benefit to tho borough and the district generally. Briefly stated, it is hoped that the Chinese Fair will bo an outstanding success for the following reasons. — 1. It will prove that the League is a live, enterprising and efficient organisation.

2. That because of this membership will bo , increased and. its standing greatly enhanced in tho estimation of the community

3. That it will be in such a position that it will ho able to proceed, without any financial embarassments, with its immediate plans tor (a) beautifying the approaches to the town; (b) tho planting uf shrubs along Karamu Road pear the entrance to too loniouna Showgrounds ; (c) the promotion ot adequate and appropriate celebrations in connection with th© borough jubilee, which is to talc© p.ace in Ociober next; (d) tho matter of die waterway scheme* in connection with the old Ngaruroro River; (e) town planning schemes and other matters of vital interest.

There aro other good reasons why tho project now cm narked upon, that of tho Chinese Fair, should bo given tho tuilest support ami co-operation from all sections of tho community, but the few enumerated will suffice to warrant tho appeal that is now being made for assistance in making the fair the great success it can be made.

Every, effort is being made to ensure that there wul be something of special interest, and amusement, to everybody, but more especially is it hoped that the several hundred visitors who wid bo in Hastings and Napier next week in connection with the Dominion Dairy Conterenc© will bo given a right royal time during their brief sojourn m the district.

In collection with tho Chinese Fair tho practical assistance of the townspeople and the residents of the countryside is asked for in tho donation ot various household commodities and other articles and produce, such as cakes, preserves,, piekies, jams, sweets, produce, fruit, vegetables, poultry, meat, milk, honey, butter, and, in fact, anything that would find a ready, sale at such a monster baaaar as will b© this unique event in tho history of New Zealand,
