ROYAL SHOW VENUE

Must Not Be Limited To Two Places SOUTHERN OPINION Bv Telegfaph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, June 5. A proposal to limit the holding of Royal Shows to two stipulated centres was strongly opposed at a meeting of delegates from the Otago and Southland A. and P. Associations held by the Southern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society at Invercargill this afternoon. Tho secretary of the council, Mr. A. A. Cameron (Dunedin) said that a remit to this effect was to be brought forward at the forthcoming annual meeting of the society by the Canterbury A. and P. Association. Mr. D. Marshall: 1 thought that idea had been dropped. The secretary: The remit was only carried by a small majority. Mr. Marshall : I am strongly opposed to the Royal Show being limited' to two places. As far as Southland is concerned, I am quite satisfied that the Royal Show will be finished if that remit is carried. Mr. A. M. Weir said that the remit was out of order. “It is certainly a contradiction of the rules of the society,” said Mr. John Preston, president of the Southern District Council. “If the remit is carried the five councils now operating will have to be done away with. Apparently it is not realised in Canterbury that the matter now is on an entirely now footing compared with what it was two or three years ago. The councils are doing great work in furthering the aims of the society, and tho society could ill afford to lose their services.” It was decided to oppose the remit and to ask for a ruling on it.
