GOVERNMENT POLICY
Minister to Assume Full Control
SOME ADVERTISING
By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, June 3
The Broadcasting Amendment Bill, to be introduced into the House of Representatives during the next few days, will provide for full Ministerial control of the broadcasting service, and in addition a measure of advertising over the air is likely to be permitted from B stations. The powers of the existing Broadcasting Board will largely disappear, but some sort of advisory board may he associated with the Minister.
The increased use of broadcasting by the Government is also foreshadowed. The new station at Titahi Bay, Wellington, will probably be used largely as a Government station, and in addition to the broadcasting of Parliamentary debates will also be used for the purpose of disseminating policy statements by Ministers. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. FJones, remarked to-day that there was a limit as far as space on the air was concerned. He had already received 01 applications for B-class licences—these in addition to the 2Q stations already operating.
