Preparations for Hastings
(By “The Barb.’’)
Considering that the Hawke’s Bay steeplechase meeting is only a week off there was very little fast work on the Hastings tracks this morning, but Saturday should see a busy morning. What was more surprising was the absence of any jumping. * * *
The two Gisborne stable companions, Quake and Glidealong, were sent half a mile in 51 i for the former to be going the better passing the winning post. * » * Trailer and Black Frost impressed by the manner in which they gut over a jive-furlong spin in Odjsees. Both finished strongly.
A working gallop was the task given Hunting Jay, the five' furlongs being registered in 67. This gelding appears as if bo will be in top form very soon. * * * The steeplechaser Cotsfield was given a strung working gallop of Once round to take 1.25 for the last six furlongs. * * * Agog and Tractile were companions over five furlongs to run a shade worse than OSsccs. Both went very well, out if anything Agog had slightly the better of the argument.
Sunny Blonde, an attractive galloper, but a little backward at present, went attractively when leaving half a mile behind in oOsecs.
Against the bit, Hunting Star ran his four in 54, but appeared to no going no faster than a good threequarter pace.
Bpeed, looking all the better for his Foxton successful trip, was given easy work on the sand.
Emotion and Royal Feast were not asked to give of their best when running five in 68. Royal Feast, outwardly at any rate, gives every indication of having fully recovered from his Egmont trip.
Blue Garter was going easily throughout when registering 51 fur half a mile.
Lavina was by no means extended when working alone to run home the last five of six furlongs in 1.20. She impresses as being buck to her nest form again.
Inheritance, Tudor Wench and Glenrossie finished in that order, at length intervals, over three-quarters or a mile in 1.19 J. The former was the pacemaker throughout and looks like showu g better form from now on. * * # Working well within themselves all the way, Peter Beckford and The Grasper galloped six furlongs, the last four of which were run in 52.
