Annual Meeting Held

ELECTION OF OFFICERS (from Our Own Correspondent.) WAIPAW A, June 3. At the annual meeting oi the Waipawa and district branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr. H. T. Liuibrick presided over an attendance of some thirty members.

Ohisnoim; assistant secretary, Mr, E. Eagie; committee, Messrs. K. L. Wynn, G. lox. N. YVisejuau, F. Adeaue (Waipawa;, G. Yoyce (Otane), N. Norris (Oinasere), N. Taylor (Llsethorpe), L. Simpson (Onga Uiiga), 1. O’Rourke (Tikokino).

The subscription was fixed at the same apiount as fast year, 6/-, and 3yt.or registered unemployed.

lhe auditor was voted an honorarium of LI 1/- and honoraria granted to the secretary anti assistant secretary. It was decided that payment ot labouring work be at the rate oi 5o per cent irom the funds of tue branch and oil per cent, by tho employer, ii the latter is a returned soldier; and 2o per cent, and 7o per cent, in the case of a civilian employer

The committee was given power to mane grants in necessitous cases.

It was resolved to hold the annual re-union on Friday, June 12. Mr. F. Adeane was appointed to represent the branch,at the Dominion Council meeting to be'held w Wellington on June 17. On the motion of Mr. W. A. Sawyer, u hearty vote ol: thanks was accorded the president for his services during the past year, the speaker paying tribute to the enthusiasm which Mr. Lim brick had shown in furthering the interests pt the branch. A similar compliment was paid to the secretary and assistant secretary. The balance-sheet tor the year showed an excess oi revenue over expenditure ol £l3 8/5, aud a balance of £29 IJ/9 in the accumulated fund, compared with an excess of expendituro over revenue ot £l4 4/2 last year. lhe annual report stated, inter alia:

Annual He-Gnioin—This was held on July 30, 1935, aud was well attended, visitors being present from all parts of the district including the president and the secretary of the Napier Association

Our thanks are due to Mr. A. E. J uII for a donation, and this, combined with the work of an energetic committee provided a very pleasant evening, which also made a small profit. Auzac Day.—The usual programme was carried out at Waipawa Our special thanks arc duo to the Munich pul Band and the High School Cadets and to the ladies committee who assisted with the sale of poppies and the making of wreaths.

Hoppy Day and Canteen Funds Irusl Account --The balance in credit with these two accounts as at Marell 31 1936. is £37 16/10. the sum ol £35 12/9 having been paid out during the year in the way of sundry wages, etc. Increased membership .seems to be general throughout the ••ouni.y. the financial membership in the N Z l{ S.A. at March 31 last being over 26,000. Thanks.—The thanks of the associa, tion are due to Mr. N I. Nielson for auditing. During the year Mr. .Maher, iu conjunction with the orchestra, staged an old-time ball, the profits from which increased our general fund by £3 2,5.
