TROPHIES PRESENTED

Te Awa Swimming Club Evening The presentation of cups, trophies, etc., in connection with the Te Awa Swimming Club’s season took place at the Trocodero last evening, when r'uere was a good attendance of adult and junior members of the club. Mr H. Abbott, chairman of the chib presided, and introduced Mr John Mason, who presented the trophies. Mr Abbott congratulated the club upon having had a successful season iu spite of the fact that bad weather had sometimes interfered with the programme. He also congratulated the winners of trophies upon their success. Mr Mason, in presenting the prizes, said he was pleased to see so many girls and boys taking a keen interest in swimming which was one of the healthiest and best exercises as well as one of the best and finest of sports. He congratulated the club upon having such a lino lot of trophies to compete for. It showed that the club was on active body aud was encouraging swimming among the young people. lie was particularly glad to note that there were two certificates to be presented to young competitors for establishing new records. He congratulated all who had won trophies, and also those who had not, but had competed and done their best, and he thought the competitors who put up new records should bo proud of their achievement. Redshaw, 1; Miss M. Rowe, 2. Freedman Memorial Cup.— Junior boys: G. Fitz Gerald, 1; D. Kearney, 2; It McDonald, 3. John Swinson Cup.—Open breaststroke: G. Snaddon, 1; G. Coutts, 2; Miss B .Keeble, 3. Holt Cup.—Junior girls and boys, freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke. (A) section girls.—Miss M. Rowe, 1; Miss G. Redshaw, 2; Miss J. Redshaw, 3. (B) section boys.—G. Hislop, Hammond, 1. Nicholson Belay Buttons: Miss J. Redshaw, I. Bedshaw and L. Hill, 1. The recipients of the trophies were heartily applauded as they came forword to receive their prize. At the conclusion of the presentation of trophies a dainty supper was provided, the catering being in the hands of the Trocadero. The excellent arrangements for the function reflected credit upon the energetic honorary secretary, Mr L. 8. Nicholson.
