Women’s Community Club Play-Reading

EXCELLENT PORTRAYAL

A splendid reading of the three-act play, "The Wind and the Rain,’ 1 by Merton Hodge, was given by members of tho play-reading circle of the Hastmg’s Women’s Community Club yesterday afternoon, tho rlub rooms being well filled with interested members who enjoyed every moment ol tho reading. Each character was excellently portrayed, and the listeners were able to imagine the real parts without difficulty. The circle leader, Mrs. F. Perrin, who spoke a tew words before the reading was commenced, mentioned that as the play had been performed for over 1000 nights it must, indeed, be well worth reading.

Tho cast was as follows: —Mrs. E. V. Simpson, Mrs. McFie; Mrs. George Dav'Jes, Gilbert Raymond; Miss H. Ford, John Williams; Mrs. 0. C. Moller, Charles Tritton; Mrs. E. Riley, Dr. Paul Duhamel; Miss Alargaret Marshall, Anno Hargreaves; Aliss-Noeline Cuming, Jill Mannering; Mrs. J. Leggatt, Roger Cole; Miss L. Baird, Peter Morgan. Opportunity was taken to wish Mrs. H. W. C. Baird bon voyage, as sho leaves iu a few days for a trip to China and Japan. On behalf of the members, Mrs. F. Perrin wished Mrs. Baird a very happy holiday and asked her to accept a dainty posy. A delicious afternoon tea was passed round between two acts and was enjoyed by everyone.
