Prices at Stortford Lodge Unchanged SMALL YARDING A small yarding of only 120 head of fat cattle was made at Stortford Lodge to-day, when prices for lines showing quality remained unchanged from last week. The yarding consisted chiefly of plain unfinished sorts which were quiet at reduced values.

No extra prime ox beef was offered. The entries of cows were chiefly light finished, the best of these making between £5 and £6. A single prime finished Shorthorn topped the market at £8 4/-. Forward young cows were definitely easier, being up to £1 down on late sales. Most of the entries of heifers were small to medium framed, the best being two fine quality pens prime finished on account of Mr R. Tattersal, Pakowhai. Passings through the sale were Isolated with the offerings making prices fully on the export schedule. The recent easing in values has resulted in several farmers who have ample feed holding off pending an improvement In the market. Many of the entries were travelled sorts which would quickly improve on good pasture. The better entries of fat dairy cows made late rates. Selected entries made the following pricesi— BULLOCK RATES. On account of Mr S. Twigg, “Mangaruhe,” Wairoa, a single medium framed light finished P.A.-Hereford cross bullock made £8 5/-. On account of the same, two smaller framed similar bred young bullocks made £8 3/-. In from Puketapu, three medium finished mixed bred bullocks made £9 8/-.

A single large framed light prime Hereford bullock made £ll 12/6. Three medium framed P.A.-Hereford cross bullocks lightly finished realised £9 10/-. HEIFER PRICES. Down from Patangata a pen of four well bred medium framed young Hereford heifers of prime quality and nicely finished, being an attractive entry of young beef, made for the heaviest weight £7 6/-. One slightly lighter sort made £7 The remainder, which were smaller, realised £5 17/6. On account of Mr 8. Twigg, “Mangaruhe,” Wairoa, a single medium framed Shorthorn heifer made £6 15/-.

Also from the same source three Hereford cross well framed heifers varying in weights made from £6 1/to £7 1/-. 'Two small framed light finished Hereford heifers made £5 1/-. A further two lighter P.A.-Hereford cross heifers made £4 7/-. In from Pakowhai a pen of five small to medium framed well bred Hereford heifers, being a prime quality entry of choice young beef, sold out from £6 to £6 10/-. A pen of four similar bred lighter heifers were passed at £5 4/-. Also in from Pakowhai a further pen of nicely bred Hereford heifers carrying prime quality sold in a line at £6. In from Puketapu a pen of three prime quality Shorthorn and Shorthorn cross heifers were eagerly sought after by the local butchers to make to £8 5/-. A pen of four well finished P.A.Hereford cross heifers of good weights showing quality made £7 4/-, COW VALUES. A single large-framed, heavy, primeconditioned Hereford cow realised £6 12/6. Two smaller sorts in the same pen made £5 2/-. A medium-framed, well-finished P.A. cow made £5 8/-. The balance of the pen, which were lighter finished, sold out at £5 1/-. A bid of £6 16/- secured two wellframed P.A.-Hereford cross cows, carrying good bodies of prime-finished beef.

Down from Patangata, a pen of five clean-bred young Hereford cows, being solidly finished and in prime order, being a good line of beef, sold in lots, making to £7 4/-. On account of Mr. S. Twigg, “Mangaruhe,” Wairoa, a pen of five mixed-bred, well-framed cows, carrying good condition despite 11 days on the road, sold in lots up to £5 17/6. On account of the same vendor, a pen of five P.A.-Hereford mediumframed cows, carrying light finish due to the road journey, sold in a line at £4 9/6. Also, from the same source, a pen of four larger-framed, heavier cows, which would soon finish well on good feed, sold at £5 7/6. In the same pen two clean P.A. cows, smaller in frame, made £4 12/6.

A pen of five P.A.-Hereford cross and P.A. medium-framed, light-condi-tioned, cows, requiring more finish, made, in two lots. £4 10/- and £1 17/6. Also, from the same source, four light P.A.-Hereford cross cows which should rapidly add weight made £t 8/6. Three heaviei b. A.-Hereford cross cows brought £5. A single large-framed, heavv Shorthorn cross cow, solidly finished, being in prime order, made £8 4/-.
