MODEL AERO CLUB

Pilot Talks to Members MUCH INTEREST SHOWN The Hastings Model Aero Club’s meeting in the club-room, Kelly's Buildings, gave further evidence of the great popularity of this activity. Members of all ages were present and six new members were accepted. It was very gratifying tn the officers to have so many older youths joining up, especially those young meu who have previously constructed models and who can be of such assistance to each other and to the club in encouraging the younger ones and novices to emulate them.

As usual some finished models were on view, and evoked approval from Flight-Lieutenant Rawnsley, who was present by invitation to speak to mein tiers on matters of interest to builders His talk was exceptionally interesting as he explained the principles of flight, related anecdotes, and generally covered the ground in a way which was ui derstaudable to even the novices and yet very informative to the advanced. A point brought out by him during his talk was that those who now or later felt desirous of learning to fly need only Jive shillings a week, enabling them to have a lesson each fortnight in the H.B. aud East Coast Club's plane. This announcement came iu the nature of a surprise, as most members believed it necessary to have quite a “nest egg’’ saved up before makiug applicatiou. No doubt some members will take .advantage of this at the earliest opportunity. Mr Rawnsley invited members to the aerodrome, aud stated the times most suitable. He also offered all assistance and advice he was able to give, assuring members that ho would attend the club’s meetings when ever possible. On the conclusion of his talk the pre sident nominated the speaker as an honorary member of. the club, the members carrying the vote by acclamation. Mr Rawnsley expressed his thanks aud acceptance. Next Friday’s meeting should show further advances, especially as the members are hard at work producing models to compete with the Napier Model Aero Club ou June 7 at Hast ings.

Both clubs are looking forward to this—l lie Napier Club because it is believed to be the first time inter-chib trials have been possible near home, and tho Hastings Club because for many of tho members it will bo the first attempt at sustained flight; iu some cases it will bo with their first completed model. The officers of the club again invite the parents and interested adults to their meetings, feeling sure that thenfirst visits will give them an interest which will ensure further visits. The meeting place and time will bo advertised iu Friday’s “Tribune.”
