The Queen Mary’s Arrival at New York TREMENDOUS OVATION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright NEW YORK, June 1. The liner Queen Mary arrived at New York and received a tremendous ovation from tugs, pleasure boats and passing ferries. It is officially stated that fog slowed the liner down; she averaged 29.13 knots over a measured courso of 3158 nautical miles from Cherbourg Breakwater to Ambrose Light in four days, 12 hours, 24 minutes, her arriving time being 9.3 a.m. This compares with the Normandie’s record of four days, 11 hours, 42 minutes over 3192 miles at the rate of 29.64 knots. The Queen Mary’s time from Bishop’s Roek to Ambrose Light was four days, five hours, 48 minutes. As she pulled into quarantine and dropped anchor for the routine immigration and sanitary inspections, thous ends on the shore lined the Brooklyn and Staten Island waterfronts for a first glimpse of the huge liner, and hours before she was due to reach the
upper harbour. Thousands more were waiting at the Battery early in the afternoon as she started to steam slowly towards the North River pier, where she docked at 4.10 p.m,
