SEASON’S OUTPUT Decrease of 41,737 Cases on Last Year EFFECTS OF GALE The export of fnrit from Hawke’s Bay for the season just ended totalled 197,015 cases, as against 238,652 cases the previous season, a decrease of 41,637 cases. Practically all growers had a good crop of the leading varieties of both apples and pears, and an export output of 300,000 cases, was anticipated, but the devastating 'storm on February 2 accounted for exceptionally heavy losses among the early varieties of apples, inr dudlng Cox’s Orange Pippin, ’ Gxavenstein and Granny Smith, ’with the result that the returns ( 'were only a fraction of those for the previous year for these varie‘ties, fi-The Stumer* apples generally were ®ood, being well coloured. Of this season's export, 63,964 cases of apples and 6,510 cases of pears were shipped at Napier by the following vessels:—Matakuna 6,814, Empire Star 2,774, Port Brisbane 17,632, Port Sydney 4,170, Pakeha 7,416, Turakina 7,192, Maimoa 4,500, Durham 7,976, Eotorua 10,000. The balance of 86,855 cases of apples and 39,686 cases of pears were railed to Wellington for shipment.
