HASTINGS RETAILERS
More Activity in Future
The executive and a committee of the Hastings Retailers’ Association met in the office of the secretary, Mr 11. A. Mossmau, yesterday afternoon, and discussed a programme, which indicates that the association will be a much more active and helpful body in future. It was considered that by enrolling the whole business community, very great benefit would ensue on matters of importance.
It was suggested that tho general meeting will probably be held on Wednesday evening next, and will commence as before with a dinner at 6 o’clock. Other business will be discussed at that meeting, and a discussion in < onnecticn with the Shops and Offices Bill rill take place. The appointment of a nightwatchman wfll be considered, and if the appointment is to bo made, on what terms. An endeavour will be made, in /iew of tho recent revelations, to ascertain what steps are being taken to protect the town with sufficient or additional policy protection at night. Also at that meeting will be the election of a president and other officers, and a decision will be made as to whether the executive should be small in number, as at present, ar representative of each trade, as was the case in the earlier history of the association. The appointment of another honorary secretary will be required, owing to the slightly indifferent health of Mr Mossman, who has held the position continuously since the inception of the “Half Holiday Association” well over 40 years ago, and has now tendered his resignation.
