BETTER CLASS OF CARRIAGE Recently the Mayor of Hastings, Mr G. A. Maddison, made representations to tho Minister of Railways, the Hon. I). G. Sullivan, through Mr E, 1,. Cullen, M.R., in tho matter of th o class of carriage used on (ihe railway service between this district and Wellington. The matter was also the subject of a resolution passed by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce at its meeting last month. Mr Cullen has now forwarded io His Worship the following letter sent to him by the Minister. “I desire to inform you,’’ says the letter, "that the passenger accommodation on these services was recently improved by the provision of new and up-to-date second-class carriages. New first-class carriages are also under construction, and will, it is hoped, be available for service in the near future.
“This information will, I hope, satisfy the request that has been submitted to you by His Worship, anti meet the requirements of Hawke's Bay railway patrons ”
