Ewe Killings Halved MORE CHILLED BEEF The outstanding feature of the Meat Board’s returns covering the exports of frozen meat during the seven months of the 1935-36 season ended April 30, is the very substantial decrease of lamb, mutton and frozen beef, compared with the shipments for the corresponding period of last season. Exports of lamb decreased by 676,373 carcases, mutton by 141,674 carcases, and frozen beef by 67.570 quarters. On the other hand, shipments of chilled beef increased by 52.570 quarters, and pork by 30,630 carcases.
The most interesting feature of the return of killings for export during the last seven months is the heavy decrease in ewe mutton. Killings of ewes totalled only 539,216 carcases, comparea with 1,009,373 carcases during the seven months of 1934-35, a decrease of 470,157 carcases. Killings of wether mutton at 958,055 carcases show an increase of 121,995 carcases. Lamb killings, totalling 7,276,754, decreased by only 68,601 carcases. Killings of pork totalled 547,724 carcases, an increase oi 90,640.
Total killings for. export during the seven months were as follow, those for the corresponding period of 1934-35 being shown in parentheses:—Chilled beef (quarters), 83,613 (28,415); frozen beef (quarters), 103,346 (164,556); wether mutton (carcases), 958,055 (836,060); ewe mutton (carcases) 539,216 (1,009,373); lamb (carcases), 7,276,754 (7,345,355); pork (porkers), carcases, 347,538 (332,443); pork (baconers), carcases, 200,186 (124,641); boneless beef (freight carcases), 281,960 (143,241); sundries (freight carcases), 265,491 (213,915).
