NATIVE GAME PLENTIFUL
Good Shooting Season in Hawke's Bay
The opinion that the past shooting season had been astounding in respect of the amount of native game was ex-' pressed at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society in Napier last night. Hucks by the thousand had been counted upon many lagoons, and members said that many lakes were “black with ducks.” Swan had also been plentiful. The discussion was aroused by a questionnaire from tho New Zealand Acclimatisation Society which endeavoured to ascertain the quantity of native and imported game throughout New Zealand.
The wet season had been extremely favourable to the ducks, and one member reported an authenticated case of ducks having three broods during the season. Reports earlier in tho season bad indicated that nests were being swept away by rises in the rivers, and that game would not be plentiful. This theory bad been completely exploded by the facts. “I think you can safely say that native game in oui- district is holding its own,” said Mr A. W. Renouf, and his view was agreed with by all members present at the meeting.
