The rare discovery of a pearl in a consignment of Stewart Island oysters was made during the week-end by a Hastings restaurateur. The pearl was firmly imbedded on the inside of the shell and is technically known as a “baroque’’ or wart, and is of practically no commercial value. The finding of pearls in oysters from Stewart Island is a rare happening, and this was tho first occasion that this Hastings man had conio across such a find in over 30 years’ experience.
