Untouchables Decide to Change Their Religion EQUALITY STATUS (Dy Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (.Received 2, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Juno 1. The “Daily Telegraph’s’’ Bombay correspondent says that the first mass breakaway of Untouchables from Hinduism, which imposes numerous restrictions on the so-called depressed classes, occurred when 10,000 Untouchables assembled at a conference and unanimously decided to change their religion as being the only way by which the low caste community can attain equality. It is believed the various sections will now join Islam, Christianity or Theosophy. It is expected this action will lead tb other breakaways from Hinduism among 00,000,000 Untouchables.
