RESTORING WAGES
Separate Bill May Be Required SOME DELAY PROBABLE By Telegraph—Special to "Tribune.” WELLINGTON, June 2. Tie preparation of legislation to pro vide for the restoration of wage levels to the 1931 standard is proving a more difficult task than was at first expected, the Prime Minister, the Tit. Hon. M. J. Savage, stated this afternoon. It was at first thought that the matter might bo dealt with by a clause in the Finance Bill, but it was now felt that it would be necessary to prepare a separate Bill to achieve the aims of the Government. “We want to do the job thoroughly,” said Mr Savage. "We don’t want a Bill that someone can drive a horse and cart through. Even if we have to make the legislation retrospective, it wou'd be better than rushing the matter before the adjournment.” Much the same applied in the case of pension legislation. People were asking when the pensions standard is to be raised, but they should remember it was necessary for the Government to build a foundation.
