Air J. R. Seton, of Hastings, left this morning on a business visit to Gisborne

Mr J. Wilson, who has been transferred on promotion from the Hastings railway staff to the parcels branch at Thorndon, left Hastings this morning for 'Wellington.

Mr L. C. M. Saunders, M.A., Mus. Bae., of the teaching staff of the Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, has received notice of his appointment to the staff of King’s College, Auckland, as director of music. Mr Saunders, who has been on the staff of the Grammar School for th? last few years, and who was a pupil there, will leave to take up his new position in 'September.

The Rev. I*. A. Parry, who is the Church Extension Organiser of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, and who is to commeuce ministry in the new Greymoutfi Church during this month, is visiting Hastings to speuk at a meeting in the Baptist Church this evening, and is the guest of the liev. C. B. Boggis.

Mr E. B- G. Steerc, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, has been transferred from the Waugauui to the Lower Hutt branch of the bank. He is well kuowu in Rugby football eiieles, having represented Hawke’s Bay for several years. He played fov New Zealand continuously from 1928 until 1932. He is also a noted athlete, who has won many championships at field events at amateur athletic meetings in recent years.

The Kev. R. H. Traeger, who for the last five years and a-half has been pastor of St. Paul ’& Evangelical Lutheran Church, Montreal street, Christchurch, will leave on June 1Q lo become superintendent of the Koonibbu mission station in South Australia. The mission station, which was founded in 1901, -was originally 12,000 acres of virgin scrub land on the coast of South Australia, and it was leased to the church by the Government. To-aay, on a co-operative basis, it is a highly productive farming area. Mr Traeger's place may be taken by the Rev. C. A Venz, of Nelson, president of the church in New Zealand, who has been asked to go to Christohurch.

Mr R. Trenehard Smith, of the Aucklaud executive staff of J. Inglis, Wright Ltd., advertising agents, has been elected a fellow of the Advertising Association of Australia. This diploma is the highest degree obtainable in the advertising profession in the Southern Hemisphere, and the Advertising Association, which was founded in 1918, has a standing very similar to that of the Institute of Secretaries. Examinations are held each year, and although previously the activities of the association have been confined mostly to Australia, there are six New Zealand candidates sitting this year for their licentiate or associate certificates. As far as is kuowu, Afr Trenehard Smith is the first in New Zealand to have received his F.O.A.

Superintendent E. Ching, who has been in charge of the Wanganui prison for the past 1G years, is to retire on superannuation, having completed 41 years of service.’ Mr Ching, who in addition to his prison supervision, lias acted in the position of Probation Officer for Wanganui, served m the first instance with permanent New Zealand Artillery in Wellington, joining that force in 1895. He served with the military forces nt Lyttelton later, and joined the prison service in that centre on Jlareh 18, 19U0. Two years later he was appointed to the prison stuff at Mount Eden, Auckland. He was transferred to Wanganui on his first promotion in 11*04. In 19011 Mr Ching was sent to New Plymouth as principal officer and remained there until 1913 when he was shifted to Wellington. Tn 191 S he was promoted to the position of deputy-superinten-dent of the Borstal Institute at Invercargill. From there lie was placed in bis post at Wangnmii, which he took over in February, 1920.
