Napier Borough Employees A month’s trial of the 10-hour week system is to be given by the Napier Borough Council, acting upon the recommendation of the works committee. The trial, which is to apply to all departments of the Borough Council, was decided upon as the result of a report by tho borough engineer, Mr W. D. Corbett. He saidi—“From the Press reports it appears that the operation of the* 40-hour week ’■* to come into force on September 1, mid before lhat time Mr Bromley, of the Labour Department, Is to visit the local authorities and discuss with them the difficulties of the new legislation. ‘‘l would therefore suggest that'we adopt this practice for a month (hourly rate of w ages to be such that the 40-hour week gives same weekly rate as formerly) so that we may be in a better position to discuss tho subject and apply for exemptions if it is found necessary to do so.”
