BANK OFFICERS’ GUILD

A Separate Union? By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON. June 1. A reply to the Minister of Labour 's, the Hou, H. T. Armstrong's, strictures on the memorandum sent bj the New Zealand Bank Officers' Guild to all bank officers throughout the Dominion was made to-night by tho executive committee of the guild. The reply states that the executive considers the memorandum to be an impartial presentation of the facts and considers that it was fully justified in forwarding it with a ballot paper. The ballot was not to decide the issue of whether a union was to be established, but merely to test the feeling of bank officers. “AVhile the Minister considers thai the memorandum from start to finish misrepresents the position,” continues the reply, “we understand that hi> takes particular exception to clause five, which he now says is an incorrect statement. This clause reads: ‘lf it is decided not to register as a union we have the assurance ot the Minister oi Labour that we shall not bo absorbed automatically in the General Clerical Union. 1 This clause wiis embodied iu the memorandum us the result ot au interview between the Minister and Luo members of the executive committee, when it was indicated to the Minister that probably a ballot would be taken. “It is obvious that if the statement macle in clause five is incorrect there would be no object in taking a ballot if tho alternative to forming n union of bank officers was automatic absorption in ibc General Clerical Union.’'
