GUILD FAREWELL

Presentation to Mrs. Henley A very pleasing little function took place in Blythes’ tea rooms, Napier, yesterday morning, when Airs E. A. W. Henley, chairwoman of the Napier Townswomen’s Guild, was entertained at tea by the 1935 Guild Committee. A private table was set apart and beautifully decorated with a large central bowl of pink nerines with touches of purple salvia. Smaller vases radiated from it and were filled with nerines set in lacy fern. Prior to tan. Airs James Christie, on behalf of the committee, presented the guest of honour with a charming corsage spray. She then asked Miss Susan Smith, as the oldest committee member, to present a small gift. Miss Smith, in a very neat speech, asked Mrs. Henley to accept an autograph book, hand illuminated, in which each inscription would be written with a fine regard and admiration for her work in the Guild. Mrs Henley suitably replied, mentioning the fine work of the committee with which she was associated and without whose help she could not have done so much. The book borb the verse: “Kind hearts are the gardens, “Kind thoughts are the roots; “Kind words arc the blossoms, “Kind deeds are the fruits.” It was inscribed: “Presented to Mrs E. A. W. Henley as a small token of respect, esteem and appreciation from the 1935 committee of the Napier Townswomen’s Guild.” Mrs Henley desired each member to put something in as well as the signature. There were present: Mesdames E. A. W. Henley, C. J. Bagley, J. Christie, G. 8. West, Bruce Barnett, C. Nicholson. Misses Faulknor, S. Smith and Leithead. Unavoidably unable to be present were Mesdames C. 0. Morse, R. C. Wright, A. P. Spackman and J. A. Rosewarne, of the committee, but who contributed.
