A BREAK-AWAY?
Revival of Liberal Party Forecast NEW LEADER WANTED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 2. The desire of many Nationalists for a change in Parliamentary leadership is stated to have been the strongly expressed opinion at a local meeting, at which it was averred that Otago electors had lost faith in Mr. Forbes and Mr. Coates, it is stated that the United section of tho Nationalists has no wish for a permanent alliance, and that the revival of the old Liberal Party is likely to be attempted. In connection with tho forthcoming National Party confidence to organise against socialisation (reported on page six), Messrs. Ansell and Laing were appointed to represent the Dunedin executive and it is likely that various electorates will have individual representation. One closely associated with the movement stated: “It is obvious, however, that Labour with its socialistic programme must be strongly opposed, and if the Dominion conference can put forward a new National leader likely to have the confidence of the country, and the power to inspire fils followers, it is almost certain that an alliance of Reform and the Liberals will continue.”
