NEW MIGRATION SCHEME

British Villages in N.Z. PREVENTION OF LONELINESS (From Our Special Correspondent.) (By Air Mail.) LONDuN, March 28. One of the chief complaints of Englishmen who go to Australia and New Zealand to hew out a new lite Is tho strangeness of the scene, tho absence of all that makes English village life what it is. All that may be changed by the suggestion that British model villages in the Dominions should be included in a new settlement scheme which has just been, framed by the Empire Migration Settlement Group.

Members of. the group are urging that Empire migration should be speedily resumed. Hitherto many families that left this country for the Dominions were forced to return through loneliness, inexperience and hardship. The new plan will settle family groups in approved districts and form them into self-contained communities. Each group will provide its own’school, library, shops, and social services.

These new townlets will follow as closely as possible the example of the typical British village. Even the names of tlie public houses—or inns—such as the Red Lion, the Coach and Horses, and the Horse and Groom, would be transplanted.
