PAHIATUA MEETING

Prospects for To-morrow (By "The Barb.”) The Pahiatua Racing Club holds its annual meeting to-morrow and Wednesday when the fields are fairly well filled and of even quality, so that the racing should be close and interesting. Hawke’s Bay stables will be represented by Forum, Pladie, Speed, Version (perhaps), Silver Song, Gay Doll, Silver River, Royal Solo and Darecourt. Slippery will not make the trip. Following is a review of the runners:— MAIDEN RACE Of £6O; 6 furlongs and 55 yards.

Battle Pomp ran two minor placings at Woodville. Lady Hoariri in the spring was twice second. First Hand, one of Mr F. Armstrong’s, is making his first appearance. Forum has yet to run up to his track work. Cloudy Bay has a third to his credit. Toper was third at Wellington and his presence has frightened a few owners from making the acceptance. Ekatere and Vainsborougli have no form. The best backed may be battle Pomp, Toper and Lady Hoariri, BALLANCE HIGHWEIGUT HACK HANDICAP. Of £80; 1 mile and 110 yards

Hue Tiger is suited to the conditions. Geitel scored a win at the Trentham summer meeting. Muggins was third at Awapuni recently. Royal Papa is a likely sort in such races as this. Prince Reno and Earl Colossus will not lack for support. Of the others Grand Blow reads best. Most investments may be made on Earl Colossus, Ceitel and Muggins. PAHIATUA CUP. Of £125 and canteen of cutlery;

Pladie was second to Spiral at Manawatu over this distance, but he is not one to place too much reliance in. Speed is no more than a possibility over this distance. Round Score is sure to be one of the best backed, while Dungarvan on liis recent hack form is sure to bo solidly supported. Red Rufus has now had the racing to seo him back to the right condition. Version is a doubtful starter, but even if she does start does not appeal on recent track work. The betting may favour Dungarvan, Round Score ami Pladie. KONINI HACK HANDICAP. Of £7O; 6 furlongs and 55 yards.

Silver Song was never better. Flainmarion won at Awapuni from a good held, but is not too genuine. La Crown has not been in the money since Wanganui. Helen Ford has but one maiden to her credit. Silver Wings has not fulfilled two-year-old promise. Vonia Park failed at Manawatu after putting up a great gallop prior to that meeting. Of the remaining trio Royal Solo has the best credentials. Three that may appeal most are Flammarion, Silver Song and Royal Solo. 11AMUA HACK HANDICAP.

Taumau can be relied upon to run this distance solidly. Kotou is having her dress rehearsal for the G.N. Oaks, and if fit for that should show up here. Chile on Trentham form will be well backed, while Confiscation has not run well for some time but, in the mood, this small field may suit her. Chaste has been running without luck. Favouritism may be disputed by Chile, Tauniau and Chaste, NURSERY HANDICAP. Of £7O; 5 furlongs.

Black Friar won at Awapuni, but is an unlikely starter to-morrow. Gay Doll is coming back to form, while the other Hastings candidate, Silver River, without being brilliant is consistent. Toorak ran a fair fourth at Woodville, his latest start, and may prove a surprise packet here. Mjrth goes fast and maybe will be started instead of Black Frier, who also hails from F. W. Davis's Woodville team. Appendage (Gainscourt—Battle Torque, by Martian) is having her first run. Guy Hunter was off the track when running second at Wairoa in the Maiden —he is a fair sort. Wistful has yet to race. In the absence of Black Friar the betting order may be Cay Hunter, Mirth and Cay Doll. MAKURI HACK HANDICAP. Of £7O; 6 furlongs and 55 yards.

Silver Song, Gcitol, Silver Wings and Royal Solo are all engaged earlier. Should ho behave himself at the barrier Solaria should be hard to beat. Rustem is expected to do better than at Awapuni. Snowball is a useful little mare but has no recent racing to give one a lead. Royal Record is “in and out.” De Trop can, but will she? At Awapuni she raced poorly, but that is not to say she will not wm at Pahiatua. None of the others look likely. Most money may be trusted tu Solaria, De Trop and Ruatom.

Slippery it, not making the trip. The distance may be too short lor Walton Park. Huzoor has not raced for some time. Miss Hushabye is a long time striking form. Darecourt has racing condition. Royal Bengal may start on the second day only. True Shaft has just as good a chance as anything else engaged. This might be a very small held with perhaps the favourite Darecourt.
