Fine Weather for Saturday’s Play THE HASTINGS CLUB Fine weather prevailed for the weekend bowling on the Hastings Club’s green. A tricky wind made play somewhat difficult. The green played well despite the recent wet weather. A good afternoon’s sport was enjoyed, and the competition was President v. Vice-President. The President’s rinks won by 12 points. Results, Presi dent’s rinks being mentioned first:— Taylor, Pickering, Tonkin, Hall 18: Watters, Darvell, White, McKee 18. Sutherland, T. Thompson, Garland. Esson 23; Claughton, Davidson, King, Parkinson 7. Beatson, Allen, Hampton, Maddison 19; Cohr, Gardner, W. Wilson. Christie 12. Lowe, Fowler, Aitken, Kruse 16; Ash. Laing, A. Wilson, Duff 27. In the Tonkin Tikis the holders, Hall and Esson, defeated the challengers, Lassen and Bissell, by 24 to 12. The holders have now withstood seven challenges. OMARUNUI CLUB The following games were played on the Omarunui green on Saturday: Burke, J. Wilson, Jarvis, W. Brown 19; Mathieson, Neilson. Smyrk, Oliver 18. Handicap pairs: Williamson and B. Brown 24; Wiseman and McDonald 17. Bear Buttons Napier: Fullerton, Russell, F. Pirie, Fox (challengers) 19; Ocnarunui: Blair, Simkin, Wikinson, Ellis 18. As the scores indicate this was an even and exciting game, the actual winning shot being Fox’s last bowl. The club is endeavouring to arrange for three rinks to compete at the Easter Tournament, so as to give every player that wishes an opportunity to gain experience. HERETAUNGA CLUB On account of the inclement weather there have not been many games played on the Heretaunga green. One rink from Hastings paid a visit during the week. Results are as follow:— . HAVELOCK VISITS WAIPAWA Although a strong wind was blowing, the weather was fine- for the visit of the Havelock North Bowling Club to Waipawa on Saturday last. Three rinks made the trip, and a most enjoyable afternoon’s play resulted. At the afternoon tea interval Mr H. Coombe, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the members of the Waipawa Club for their hospitality, and said they had enjoyed the visit very much. Mr F. Eagle, president of the Waipawa Club, said it was a great pleasure to have a visit from Havelock, and hoped that the interchange of visits would continue in the future. Results of play were as follow, Waipawa players being mentioned first:— Walker, August, Dailey, Eagle 30; Boss, Toulmin, Coombe, Hall 17. Barrie, McKay, Chisholm, Holt 18; Bose, Rush, Smith, J. H. Joll 19 (22nd head). Parkin, Wallace, Cossar, Critchley 22; E. Joll, Douthwaite, Tucker, Wilson 17.

NAPIER v. KIA TOA

A most enjoyable game between the Napier and Kia Toa clubs was played on the Napier club’s green on Saturday. Conditions were excellent for play, and interest was sustained until the last heads were concluded.

At the close of play Mr McGhoc, president of the Napier Club, expressed the pleasure of members at the presence of the Kia Toa bowlers and hoped that in future, bowlers would participate in many similar games. Mr A. W. Simpson, president of the Kia Toa club, in reply, reciprocated Mr McGhee’s remarks and congratulated th Napier club on winning by 22 points. He also thanked the ladies xOr the enjoyable afternoon tea. Parkhill (Kia Toa) was slow off the mark while playing Beer, the latter’s four leading throughout, finally winning by 28 —10. Bissell (Kia Toa) made a great fight against his ex-club mate, Engebretsen, and finally lost by 2 points. Both skips were on their game end played excellent bowls. Fenwick (Kia Toa) had a lead of 5 against Daily on the 13th head, and finally won by 9 points. Brown (Kia Toa) was 6 down on the 12th head while playing Belcher. The former eventually won the game by a single point—a fine recovery. Hill (Kia Toa) had a team which

played the better bowls against Plested, and a 9-point win was recorded against the latter. Williams (Kia Toa) appeared to be in for a good win against McGhee. The last few heads favoured the Napier president, who eventually lost by 5 points. Sykes (Kia Toa) was handicapped with a weak team and was outclassed by Bear’s four—-4 —11, the best win of the day. Rowlands and Burton produced a fine game with the early stages favouring the Kia Toa rink, 12 —7 being the position on the 13th head. The last four heads were keenly contested.
