The weather on Saturday was ideal for the children s sports and picnic, which were held on the recreation ground.. There was a very large attendance of parents and the general public. The committee, who were ably assisted by a number of the parents, had a very busy day, and the long programme of over forty events was finished in good time. There were running, book, sack, tyre, skipping, threelegged, and thread-the-needle races for all ages and sizes. There ‘were some splendid exhibitions of high jumping, the following boys, not necessarily the winners, giving attractive displays:— Cooper. Arnott, I’eue, H‘. Hage, 11. Burchett, H. and F. White, C. Page and G .Reid. The tug-of-war created a lot of interest, the teams being very evenly matched. Arnott’s team gained tho victory by a narrow margin. In the maried ladies’ race, the winner was Mrs L. Symmons, with Mrs Budge m second place. The committee-men’s race was almost a dead heat between Messrs Voyce, Page and Budge. There was an abundance of refreshments and the children were regaled at intervals with sandwiches, buns, cakes and raspberryade. Popular items were the apple and lolly scrambles. Toys and bags of lollies were given to the tiny tots. Altogether the children had a marvellous day and one they will not readily forget. The committee are very grateful for the generous support accorded them, and the assistance

so willingly given throughout the day, especially with the commissariat department. The day was so successful that it is hoped to make Ui.e event an annual one. So many children were placed in the various events that it was impossible to compile a complete list of winners.
