BROADCASTING POLITICS
“Inexpensive Experiment” (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 16. The Hon. M. J. Savage stated that the proceedings of Parliament will be broadcast through 2YA, but if it is necessary to increase the transmission of Parliamentary speeches as a result of public demand independent transmitting arrangements will have to be made. The Government was merely making an inexpensive experiment to ascertain whether the community desired to listen to Parliamentary debates. It was not the Government’s intention to deprive listeners of musical and other entertainment over the air. Only selected speakers would be given an opportunity to speak over the air, and only major debates and important statements would be broadcast.
