BRIDGE PARTY
Children’s Home Benefit
Airs T. H. Lowry, president of the Hastings Women’s Community Club, was hostess at a most successful bridge party, held in the spacious club rooms, yesterday afternoon, the object being to raise funds for the Hawke’s Bay Children's Homes, as September is the month when club members are asked to contribute to this very worthy cause.
The club rooms looked particularly attracted with a profusion of beautiful spring blossom, a large brass bowl of beautiful iceland poppies and maidenhair fern being much admired. Other bowls were arranged with magnolias, forsythia and almond blossom and smaller bowls of narcissi, irises and grape hyacinths. During an interval the players adjourned to the Pasadena tea-rooms, where a most delectable afternoon tea, given by the president, was enjoyed by everyone.
Four prizes were given and these were won by Airs Prebble (highest contract), Air's W. R. Stead (mystery contract), Airs White-Parsons (highest auction), and Mrs R. Giorgi (mystery auction). The result of the competition for the chair from the blind institute was announced and the winner was Air H. Blackmore. The whole afternoon was most successful and as a result the sum. of £l7 10/- will be sent to the Children’s Homes.
