Danger from Trespassers
WARNING BY THE COUNCIL
The Hastings borough authorities are much concerned at the activities of people who trespass on the Mangaroa forest block for the purpose of stealing wood and cones and for picnicking, and it is the council’s intention to prosecute anyone found there in the future.
A great deal of firewood has been stolen from the area, and there are evidences that the people who trespass there have been smoking and even lighting fires. It was pointed out this morning by tho Town Clerk, Mr Noel C. Harding, that the danger from fire is very grave, and such threats to the safety of the forest are greatly to be regretted, especially now that it is reaching the stage at which it will be of very great value as a borough asset by the sale of the timber.
The forest is the ropperty of the people of the borough, and has a potential value of many thousands of pounds. Tho council therefore appeals to the
public to give their co operation in preventing trespassers from going into the
