RUGBY SMOKE-CONCERT

The Waipukurau Club From Our Own Correspondent WAIPUKURAU, Sept. 14. The Waipukurau Rugby Football Club held a smoke concert in the Masonic Hall this evening, following their success over Te Aute for the Central Park Challenge Cup, Mr W. Booth presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors, representing the sub-union, and other clubs. The following toasts were honoured: The King, the chairman; Waipukurau Football Club (Mr F. Gay—Mr M. Lane and Mr T. Ferguson); selector and coach (Mr Gibson—Mr Gallagher); kindred clubs (Mr T, Ferguson—Mr E. Limpus and jfr J. Piki); Central Hawke’s Bay Rugby Sub-Union (Mr A. C. Holms—Mr J. Bell); Central Hawke’s Bay Rugby Referees’ Association (Mr C. Gallagher—Mr D. Dinnan and Mr C. Williamson); musicians and entertainers (Mr J. Butler—Mr E Malkin); Waipukurau club junior team (Mr C. Gallagher—Mr 8. Smales); the Press (Mr V. King—Mr A. C. Holms); the chairman (Mr A. C. Holms —Mr W. Booth). During the evening several orchestral items were given, while other items were given by Messrs J. Pender, Clapperton and E. S. Fortune The cups donated by Mr R. Davey for the most improved players in the backs and forwards were presented by Mr C. L. Crooks, in the unavoidable absence of Mr Davey, to Mr K. Lovett and Mr D. Johnston respectively.
