Institute’s Fine Display

LIST OF AWARDS From Our Own Correspondent WAIPAWA, Sept. 14. A most successful fete under the auspices of the Waipawa Women’s Institute was held in the Municipal Concert Hall on Friday afternoon, in conjunction with the monthly meeting of the Institute. Consioering the unfortunate weather which has been experienced for some time now, there was an excellent display of blooms. The flowers were judged by Mr A. F. Cook, of Waipukurau, and the cooking and home industries by Miss P. lull. Mrs Mason was in charge of the cooking section, and Mrs Thompson of the flowers and decorative classes.

During the afternoon Miss D. Jull took the opportunity of extending a farewell to Miss Lyna McSweeney, who is shortly to be married, and on behalf of the members of the Institute asked her to accept a handsome jug as a small token of remembrance. Miss McSwceney made suitable response. The usual monthly meeting of the Institute w r as dealt with, and at the conclusion members took part in a community sing led by Mrs Strang.

Mrs H. Al. Preston (secretary) was appointed as the Institute’s delegate to attend the conference to be held at Makotuku on October 9. Invitations were received to be present at the birthday of the llatuiua Institute on September 25, and at the R.S.P.C.A. meeting in Napier on September 26.

The birthday of the Waipawa Institute will be held in October, and Mrs E. Kittow has kindly offered to donate the ingredients for the Institute cake.

A deputation comprising Messrs C. G. E. Harker, W. A. Sawyer, and the Rev. W. T. Drake, waited on the Institute seeking the support of members in connection with the Health Stamp Campaign which is shortly to be launched throughout New Zealand.

The thanks of the Institute are due to Mesdames F. Linibrick, J. Bibby and H. M. Preston and Miss Jull, who donated trophies in connection with the flower show, and to all other TncnibtWs who assisted towards the success of the function. A very dainty afternoon tea was served, the hostesses for the afternoon being Mrs Bond, snr., Mrs E. Bond, Mrs Dalton, Miss Dalton, Mrs Windle, Mrs Booker, Mrs Flynn, and Miss O’Halloran.
