Waipukurau Beats Te Aide

WAIPUKURAU, Sept. 14

By 20 points to 12, Waipukurau successfully withstood a challenge from Te Auto College for the Central Park Challenge Cup in a Rugby football match played at Waipukurau this afternoon, when a good attendance of the public were treated to a fast and interesting display by both teams. Waipukurau, after their victory over Takapau last week, were determined to retain the cup, and forced the pace throughout the game, with no let-up. The teams lined out as follow:—

Te Aute: Okeroa, Koopu, Kutneroa, Nicholas, Francis, Masters, Maaka, Wairoa, Kihi, Huata, Parker, Raureto, Porter, Rangi, Tibble. Waipukurau: Lovatt, Ferguson, Hampton, Carney, Smales, Gibson, Scott, Lane, Johnston, Ferguson, Peterson, Chapman, Halford. Atkins, Archer. From a melee the ball went out to the Te Aute half, who sent his backs away to bring the game into the Waipukurau 25. Waipukurau retaliated, the Blue forwards pressing hard. Play hovered in midfield, then, with the game going into Te Aute’s 25, Lane broke away to go over on the corner, Johnston’s kick failing. Waipukurau 3 Te Aute 0

With the resumption of play Te Aute swept up the field, and kept Waipukurau on their toes. A free kick to the Reds saw Okeroa hit the post.
