OBITUARY
Mr. William Beamish
The death occurred suddenly at u nursing home in Hastings yesterday morning of Mr William Beamish, eldest son of the late Mr N. E. Beamish. Tht late Mr William Beamish was born at Plains House, Turakina, in 1857, and came to Hawke’s Bay with his parents as a boy. He was educated at the Na pier Grammar School He was manager of the Okawa Station for some years, after which he owned Kakariki Station, Wairoa, in partnership with his brother, the late Mr Nat H. Beamish. After leaving Kakariki Station he was engaged in gold-mining in the Cromwell district in Otago for a number of years. Subsequently he retired and had lived in and about Hastings since.
In his younger days the late Mr Bea mish was a successful exhibitor at shows in the early days of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society. He was a keen sportsman and was a well-known shot in the field and at the traps. He won many successes at pigeon shooting. Ho was also a keen follower of racing. The late Mr Beamish was not married, but is survived by one brother, Mr G. R. Beamish, of Whanawhana, and a sister, Mrs Barcroft, now living in England. He was a man of a most kindly and generous disposition and his passing will be deeply regretted by many friends, both in Hawke’s Bay and in other parts of New Zealand.
Dame Madge Kendall
LONDON, Sept. 15.
The death has occurred of Dame Madge Kendall, actress.
Dame Kendall, who was bom at Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, in Ih-19, was a sister of Mr T. W. Robertson, the dramatist. She made her debut in London in 1865 ns M Ophelia.”
