Reserve Bank
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The New Zealand Welfare League have taken me to task for quoting the number of shareholders of the Reserve Bank, and they finish up by claiming that my version is simply a parody and definitely untrue. In endeavouring to rebut my statements, the league has quoted the figures from the balance-sheet published on March 31 last, since when the majority of the small shareholders resold their shares. If the N.Z. Welfare League will not publish the figures as they stand to date why do they publish anything. The maximum amount allowed per shareholder is £lOOO, making a minimum of 503 shareholders, I would remind the N.Z. Welfare League that many important questions I have asked I they have most conveniently left un- i answered, but have endeavoured to [ stage a come-back on a comparatively trivial matter where they thought they had an opening in order to cloud the major issue. Sir, what and who are the N.Z. Welfare League and for whose welfare are they solicitous? For a considerable number of years I have noticed their activities in your correspondence columns, but on no occasion have I seen them insert one line on behalf of those unfortunates who really require help.— Yours, etc., J. S. HANNAH. Sept. 13, 1935.
