STORTFORD LODGE SALE The Associated Auctioneers report that at the usual weekly sale at the Stortford Lodge yards yesterday, an entry of nearly 300 head of fat cattle included some exceptionally well-fin-ished drafts of ox and cow beef. The tone of the market was strong, with a slight improvement apparent at times on some of the prime cow beef drafts, ox beef being fully firm at late rates. Heifer beef was in short supply. Top price for prime heavy ox beef was £lO 15/-, while prime heifer beef made up to £7 2/6. In the fat sheep section, rates on prime ewe mutton showed an advance of from 1/- to 1/6 per head, as a result of short supply, butchering competition being at advanced rates. Wether mutton and lamb was at parity with last week. In the store sheep pens, all hogget lines met a brisk demand at slightly improved levels, but back-country breeding ewe lines, mostly heavy in lamb, were a shade easier generally.
