HOCKEY SEND-OFF DANCE

There was a good attendance at the send-off dance tendered to Miss Rene Dahlberg, the Norsewood hockey All Black selected for the New Zealand women’s hockey team to tour Australia shortly. A jolly night’s programme of favourite dances was thoroughly enjoyed, and was capably controlled by Messrs R. Armstrong and A. Mather. Mr Te Hau’s orchestra supplied excellent music and enjoyable extras were contributed by Mrs C. Parsons and Miss U. Olsen. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr G. Port and Mrs Nesbet, and a spot waltz by Mr A. Rosacker and Miss Ridge. After an excellent supper Mr A. F. Culliford, on behalf of the men’s and women’s hockey’ clubs and the public, congratulated Miss Dahlberg on her selection for the All Black team, and said they were indeed proud of it. This was the second occasion that a player had been selected from Norsewood to be included in a New Zealand women’s hockey team. Miss Eva Brabazon was chosen some years ago to visit Australia with a women’s team, but for some reason the tour did not take place. Mr Culliford said the town and district were confident that Miss Dahlberg would prove her worth in the team, and wished her a very happy and successful time. Miss Dahlberg, in returning thanks, said she would endeavour to uphold the honour conferred on her by her selection for the team. The eompetion for a pair of ducks wag won by Mr Keith Barclay, and that for a cake by Mr C. Dahlberg.
