TRANSPORT LICENSING

Authority Sits at Waipukurau From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU. June 24. The No. 4 District Transport Licensing Authority commenced its sitting at Waipukurau to-day, those present being Messrs. R. F. Gambrill (chairman), J. J. Cliff McCulloch and C. Matthews. Mr C. Halliday, secretary was also present. Applications for renewals of continuous passenger service licenses were heard as follows:— W. P. I’rujean’s application was in respect of the Waipukurau-Hastings service. No route variations were sought as to conditions. Mr Prujean stated that ho would be applying for a transfer at the end ot the month. He wished to reduce the return fare, Otane-flastings, from 6/- to 5/-. The single fare will be 3/6. The Railway Department’s representative agreed to the proposed amendment and the application was granted for 12 months, and the fare amendment approved. W. J. Mahoney had three applications: (1) Waipukurau-Herbertville; (2) Waipukurau-Hatuma; and (3) Porangahau-Waipukurau. There was no opposition iu any particular. No amendment was asked lor by the applicant in respect of the three services. The applications were granted, being treated as one license, and granted for 12 months. The application of 1 M. Harvey (Harvey Bros.) covering a WaipawaBlackhead service was granted. There was no objection lodged against the renewal. J. W. McNutt applied for a renewal in regard to his I’orangahau-Waipuku-rau service. No variation was sought. The application was granted, there being no opposition. D. A. Preston, Ltd., applied for renewal of an Ongaonga-Waipawa service. No opposition was recorded and the application wus duly renewed.

W. Severinsen, Makaretu, sought a renewal as to a Makaretu-Takapau service. There was no opposition to the issue of this license. In view of the lack of essential information the question of granting the application was adjourned until the next sitting in VVaipukurau. B. 0. Hooper lodged an application, granted, in regard to a TikokinoWaipaWa service. Adjourned till next sitting. Jones Bros, asked for the issue of an area license. The Central Hawke’s Bay Carriers’ Association opposed the application. G. D. Jones, applied for a route license.—Held over. There was no opposition. A. W. Healey also applied for a route license. (Porangahau-Danne-virke, three times weekly). The Central Hawke's Bay Carriers' Association, per Atessrs. J. Anderson (secretary) and G. E. Granger, after a brief discussion withdrew its earlier announced opposition. C. R. Watson, public accountant, said that Messrs. S. A. Ross and Sons, bold an area goods service license, and had decided upon the abandonment of -the Porangahau-Dannevirke section of their service. They had arranged for Mr Healey to take over this run owing to the pressure of other work. Tne applicant stated that ho expected the carrying of .mails, also cream, wool, and other carting. He would use a truck, six years old. The application of .Mr Healey was granted, to end on May 31, 1936, subject to deleting the route from I’orangahau to Dannevirke from Messrs. Ross and Sons’ license. The weight limit was fixed at 13cwt. f reedom of action as to running without restricticn as to the number of days was granted to the applicant.
