WAIPAWA PLUNKET BALL

Successful Function A most successful plain and fancydress ball in aid of the funds of the Waipawa Plunket Society was held in the the Waipawa Alumcipal Theatre on Friday night. For non-dancers a budge tournament had been arranged and the winners of the prizes were Airs Towers and Air Fox. Music for dancing was played by Mr Lew Munro's Orchestra from Hastings, and extras were played by Mesdames Alita and W. Harris, Miss B. Kingston, and Messrs. H Weedon, W. Sorenson, and Scotty Tawhi. Alessrs. E. Kingston and F. R. Furminger acted as M.C.’s, being assisted by Mr W. J. Harris. The winners of the prizes for best iar.cy costumes were by Mrs J. Dunn (Early Victorian), and -Mr H. Weedon (Spanish Gentleman). A Alonte Carlo competition was won by Aliss Pelling and Mr J. Conner, and Mr and Mrs W. J. Harris were successful in the waltzing competition. A further competition for a cake was won by Aliss Bolton. Aliss Pelling and Air J. Connor gave an exhibition of the “King’s Own”.

Air C. G. E. Harker, on behalf ot the society, extended thanks to all those who had assisted in any way towards the success of the function, which would result in the society’s funds being considerably augmented. He particularly mentioned the splendid work done by the secretary, Mrs H. AL Preston.

A dainty supper provded by the tho members of the Plunket Committee was greatly appreciated. Amongst, those present in fancy costume were:—Airs J. Dunn, Victorian Lady; Aliss E. Gallagher, pier? rot; Aliss McKenzie (Waipukurau) pompadour; Aliss R. Lethbridge, old fashioned frock; Aliss Murphy, period costume; Aliss D. Cable, Spanish senorita.

Others present were: Airs -Mackintosh, Hack French velvet; Airs Cogswell, white frock with scarlet shoulder spray; Miss R. King, frock of pink and blue lace and net; Aliss G. Verran, pink voilo frock; Aliss R. Limbrick, green satin frock; Aliss E. Talbot, midnight blue chenile velvet; Aliss J. Frazer, shell pink chiffon; Aliss J. Cochrane, slim fitting frock of pink lace; Miss E. Davies, turquoise blue lace frock, with chocolate-brown moire ribbon sash; Miss Elford, white lace frock; Aliss P. Gray, frock of pink net, appliqued with velvet flowers; Miss D. Liddell, black panne velvet frock, white fur coateo; Aliss 0. Carter, white and silver frock.
