Trends on Dominion Markets PRICES GENERALLY STEADY There was good inquiry generally for all classes of stock at stock sales held throughout the Dominion during the past week, in few instances being there any fall recorded in values, and in the majority of sales, late rates were maintained on fat stock, with improvements at some centres in the prices of stock stock. The position on the principal individual markets is briefly as follows :— ADDINGTON A medium sized entry ol store sheep made late rates at the Addington sale, Christchurch, two-tooth ewes making up to 33/-. Fat lambs made a steady sale at export rates. Butchers’ sheep wore firmer in the fat sheep section, export lines being slightly easier, with most of the lighter drafts going to freezing buyers. Seme 385 fat cattle were penned, good beef improving 10/a head, with other qualities unchanged. Best beef made to 26/- a 100 lbs. A large entry of fat pigs made late rates generally. WESTFIELD. At the Westfield sale, Auckland, over 1000 head of fat cattle came forward, ox beef being more plentiful than usual, while fattened dairy lines were also in heavy supply. The quality generally was good, and the demand keen for better sorts, values being firm on late rates. Cattle lacking condition were inclined to be easier. Vealers were full}' firm at, late rates. Fat sheep realised last week’s improved prices wethers making to 25/5. Pigs, which were fewer, met with steady demand, porkers showing a slight rise, while baconers were steady. JOHNSONVILLE. An average yarding of bullocks and a heavy entry of cows came forward at tho Johnsonville sale, Wellington. I’rime sorts made late rates, with unfinished cattle difficult of sale. Light and plain cows were distinctly easier. Vealers advanced about 5/- a head. In tha fat sheep, the few prime wethers on offer made late rates, with other sorts easier, while there was a keen demand for all classes of ewes at unchanged values. Lambs made parity rates. ' BURNSIDE At Burnside sale, Dunedin, weather conditions resulted in a disorganisation of train services, and a number of consignments of stock did not reach the yards until the completion of the sale. Fat cattle were unchanged for prime sorts, but medium lines advanced 10/- a head, the entry totalling 265 head, while store cattle numbered 164. The fat sheep entry consisted chiefly of medium quality ewes, with few wethers. Prime ewes rose 1/6 a head, medium sorts being firm, and light sorts at parity. Fat lambs made schedule rates. Pigs were slow of sale. WANGANUI All fat stock, both sheep and cattle, showed an advance in values at the Wanganui sale. The store sheep were of poor quality generally, and few lots were sold. The store cattle entry comprised chiefly cull cows which sold well. Pigs and vealers met with good competition. HASTINGS A heavy entry of fat cattle, of good quality generally, came forward at the Stortford Lodge sale, prices being fair, ly well maintained, with a slackening tendency part way through, the sale. Store cattle were fairly steady, with good breeding cows selling better. Fat sheep were in good supply and showed little change in values. Store sheep were in exceptionally good demand, breeding ewes realising prices which showed a distinct advance, two-tooths making to 35/-. WAIPUKURAU. Late rates were generally maintained in the principal sections at the Waipukuiau sale, with store sheep again selling well, at slightly improved prices on some lines. Fat stock were fairly steady. FEILDING. There was a small yarding at tho Feilding sale. Fat lambs were easier, while fat ewes and wethers were firmer. There was a good demand for dairy stock. Fat lambs: Prime 24/6,2. Good 19/- to 22/-, _fair 17/3 to 18/-, inferior from 11/7. Eat wethers: Prime, 25/-, good 11/6 to 23/-, lair from 21/-. Fat ewes: Prime 15/10 to 16/1, good 11/3 to 15/6, fair 13/- to 14/-. Store sheep: Empty ewes 8/- to 11/-, breeding ewes two-tooth to fiveyear 19/-, four to fivc-vear 16/6, 17/8 to 21/-, two-tooth wethers 18/-, two to four-tooth wethers 19/9, ewe lambs 21/10, w.f. wether lambs 11./- to 15/4, b.f. lambs 7/- to 12/5, b.f. ewes 8/8. Dairy springing cows close to profit £4 io/- to £5, late ealvers £3 15/-, springing heifers £2 5/-. Store cows: Good condition 32/6 to 40/-, others from 15/- to 30/-. Fat Jersey cows: I’rime £3 7/6 to £3 17/6, light prime 35/- to £2 1.0/-, P.A cows £4 7/6, Hereford cows. £3 7/6. Heavy rough mixed bullocks £8 7/6 to £8 17/6.
