Royal Ascot.
Royal Ascot, whose four-duy meeting provides the great sporting social event oi the English summer, opened on Tuesday, when the Gold Fuse, Ascot Stakes, and Coventry Vase (for two-year-olds) were the principal events. On Wednesday tho Royal Hunt Cup was the principal race, on Thursday the Ascot Gold Cup, nnd yesterday the Queen Alexandra and Hardwicko Stakes. Tho Ascot prizes are very valuable, and are keenly contested, the grand total for the meeting being £00,245, an average of £2151 per race.
