POWER BOARD MEETS

Central Hawke’s Bay Body BUSINESS OF THE MONTH From Our Own Correspondent WAIPUKURAU, June 21. The monthly meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board was held at Waipukurau to-day, the chairman, Mr A. C. Russell, presiding over Messrs W. H. Rathbone, A. C. Holms, A. W. S. Longley, E, A. Fraser, M. Ryan, J. A. Kerr, F. J. Withcrow, C. Pattison, together with the secretary-manager, Mr G. E. Fowler, and the engineer, Mr J. K. Lee.

The Napier Borough Council forwarded the following resolutions:— “That this council affirms and adopts the principle that all employees shall receive the full rate of wages for work done, without any deductions, excepting those required by law, e.g., for superannuation, etc.; and further, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to all public bodies concerned in this district, and, while disclaiming any desire or intention to interfere with their own affairs, that this concil urgently requests them to give this matter every consideration, believing that the general adoption of this policy would be of immediate benefit to all classes of the community. ’ ’

The chairman stated that the board always paid full rates of pay, and on the motion of Mr Rathbone, the letter was received without comment.

Tho Chief Electrical Engineer, Wellington, wrote thanking the board for its kind expressions of sympathy with him in his recent bereavement.—Received.

The Wiremen’s Registration Board forwarded a circular relative to the selling of electrical apparatus by firms other than qualified electrical concerns. —Received.

The General Manager, New Zealand Railways, Wellington, wrote stating that he would be pleased to review the matter of wiring the Kopua railway houses if the board’s transmission lines went through Kopua. The board decided to accept a guarantee of £lO5 for the proposed line extension to Kopua, on the probability of the Railway Department installing light in the Kopua railway houses. Mr F. B. Curd, Hatuma road, Waipukurau, wrote asking the board to take steps to eliminate radio interference.

On the motion of Mr Holms, a motion was carried to the effect that the Government radio inspector for Hawke’s Bay be asked to report on this complaint. Mr Holms in moving this, said that several other residents in the vicinity of Takapau road had recently experienced similar trouble. Tho engineer pointed out that finding the cause of interference was often a very difficult problem, and,, in support of this statement gave an example of a case where, in the board’s area, no less than nine men had worked over an area without success.

Mr Rathbone remarked that Waipukurau seemed always to be having trouble in this respect, and went on to say that reception in Waipawa was very good.

On tho recommendation of the finance committee it was resolved that the reduction asked for by the Waipukurau District High School Committee for lighting the theatre at-the recent concert in aid of school funds be regretfully declined owing to the precedent it would establish, and the large number of schools concerned in the area.

A request from Takapau, that the board waive its minimum charge for electricity in a hall to be used by the Boy Scouts was acceded to, on the condition that the applicants proveded the switchboard. As an outcome of a discussion concerning the variation between the Dannevirke and Centra! Hawke's Bay Boards in respect of the maximum demand in the uso of electricity, considerable discussion ensued as to why the Central Hawke's Bay area should compare so unfavourably, and on the motion of Mr J. A. Kerr, seconded by Mr W. H. Rathbone, it was decided to ask the Public Works Department to agree to an exchange of sub-station meters for one month.
