RED POLL BREEDERS
Annual N.Z. Conference PROGRESS OE HERDS The Red Poll breed of cattle is one which is steadily growing in popularity throughout the Dominion, and is finding favour in Hawkes Bay in particular, there now being a number ot stud herds i’i this province, including the Mount Vernon ’ herd ol Mr J. W. Harding. Mr H. P. Hole's ''Cloielly ’ herd at Hatunia and Mr E. Waldrons ■southern Cross” herd at Waipawa. Reference to the steady progress made during the past year by the Red Poll breed was made by the president, .Mr J. \V. Harding, at the annual meeti < of th'- Vew Zealand Red Poll Cattle |>, oyleis' Association on Wcdnctday.
There was a fair attendance of members.
Mr Harding said the increased membership and the larger number of registrations for both bulls and heifers were very satisfactory indications of the progress being made in the Dominion. Conditions in the dairy industry wore still lar from thriving, and there was still not the demand for breeding stock that there otherwise would be from this quarter. There had, however, been an increasing demand for Red Poll bulls for crossing. This was evident by the larger number of crossbred cattle coming on the market in certain districts. These cattle showed how important the Red Poll sire was, and they appeared to be m keen demand. Mr 0. R. Forster-Pratt was appointed the society’s delegate at the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Messrs. H. G. Bryant and -J. S. Elliott were added to the judges'' list. Allocations made to the Royal Agri-
