H.B. DRIVERS’ UNION
Dominion Award Sought Between now and September the Hawke’s Bay Drivers’ Union is to cooperate with similar unions throughout . I the Dominion, to arrange a Dominion i award for drivers. This decision was reached at Napier last night, when a well-attended meeting of local drivers gathered at the Community Hall, under the chairmanship of Mr W. Wood, who is chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Work- : ers’ Council. At the close of the meeting, Mr M. Crawford, secretary to the previous drivers’ union, said that the award for drivers expired in January, 1933. The purpose of the meeting last night was to assist in the general move to bring about a national award. Since the date when the award lapsed, there has been one attempt to re-establish a Dominion award, and two attempts to establish a I local award, but the union could not ' agree with the terms offered by the : employers, i The district council of unions called ! the meeting last night so that all ! organised unions in the town could help , the drivers in their attempt to secure i an award. Before September, the Nai pier union would join with others throughout the Dominion in an effort 1 to establish a national award. If that fails, the Napier men will negotiate for a local award. It was stated that the Drivers’ Union ’ was assured of the support of the district council of the Hawke's Bay Dis- ' i triet Workers’ Council in any action i which might be taken. — ~~
