Coroner’s Jurisdiction

Air Justice Haise Rogers to-day heard argument on the application for a writ of prohibition restraining the city coroner, Air E. T. Oram, from further proceedings with the James Smith inquiry on the grounds that the coroner had no jurisdiction, in that the law demanded that he should have first viewed the body, whereas all he had viewed was a human arm. lhe Judge asked counsel whether there had ever been a case where the coroner had been prohibited on the ground that sufficient of the body was not present for his inspection. Air Evatt, counsel for the accused, Patrick Brady, in the tattooed arm inquiry, replied that there was what was known as the “skull” case 700 years ago. The Judge intimated at the close of argument that h e would give bis decision to-morrow or Alonday. MURDER OF MR. HOLMES £3OO Reward (or Information SYDNEY, June 20.
