RUGBY FOOTBALL

Three Matches in Hastings TO-MORROW’S SERIES The first round of the Rugby championship series was completed last week, and the fifst game of the second round will be played at Nelson Park, Hastings, on Saturday afternoon. The present leaders, Celtic, will appear in the early game at 1.15 p.m., when they will meet Havelock. The boys from the village have not jet succeeded in securing any championship points, but nevertheless have given more' than one of the leading teams a fright, and if the Celts take things too easily on Saturday, they also may get a scare.

The game with pride of place on No. 1 ground at 2.45 p.m. is the meeting of Napier H. 5.0.8. and Hastings. In tho opening game, Old Boys decisively,- defeated Hastings, and the yollow-and-blacks hope to avenge that defeat on Saturday. These two teams should be very evenly matched and should give a very good account of themselves. On No. 2 ground.. Pirates will try conclusions with M.A.C. The Blacks are a team that are always likely to cause a surprise, but whether they can provide one against M.A.C. remains to be seen. All Black Tori Reid should be back to help his team-mates, and it will be interesting to seq this great forward in action, lifter his experience in the recent New Zealand trials. The Maori boys are still in the running for the championship, and with their leader back they are sure to infuse plenty of dash into their play.

TO-MORROW’S TEAMS The following teams will represent their respective clubs in Rugby competition games to-morrow: — Havelock North seniors v. Celtic, Nelson Park No. 1, at 1.15 p.m,, players to the ground as early as possible: James, Inglis, Eddie, R. Joll, Gloyn, U. Joll, .Meads, Mollinon, Russell, Coghlan, Heffernan, O’Brien, Purcell. Smith, Small, Fergusson, Jago, Horne. Celtic juniors: Sinclair, McKain, Oassin, Ryan. Garvey, Alexander, McKay, Rose, Hollander, Kale, Bailey, Stevens, Percy, Cowan, Wren, Kines, P. Sullivan. Celtic seniors v. Havelock North, Nelson Park No. 1, at 1.15: Simon, Griffiths. Pullen, Colebrook, McKenzie, Gnlgy, Geddes, Tomoana. Hannigan, Kelly, Bower, Piper, Cunningham, Manina, McHardy, Calnan, Townsend, Brigden. THE NAPIER GAMES The interest of all Rugby patrons—and of everyone else, be it said, was centred last week on the All Black trials and the selection of the “29” to tour Great Britain. To-morrow, however, interest will once more centre in the local Rugby championship, when the opening games in the second round will be played. With three Hastings teams at the top of the championship table, the local question is - what chance have the Napier teams in the second round? At McLean Park. Napier, the chief attraction is the game between Hastings H. 5.0.8. and Technical 0.8., who played a rrawn game in the first round. The Hastings team did well against M. 8.0.8. last Saturday, and with Apsey and Vartan to assist them, they will probably be the favourites to-morrow. The other senior contest is between AL.JJ.O.Ii. and Eskview. Although tho

latter team have shown some improvement in their play. Marists should secure the additional championship points. An interesting curtain-raiser at 1.7,0 p.m. will be the third grade game between the High School first fifteen and Pirates.
