HASTINGS HOCKEY
Mid-Week Games YESTERDAY’S RESULTS Two senior hockey games were played yesterday in the mid-week Hastings competition, United Gold (8) scoring a hollow victory over Karori (1), and United White and Pirates playing a drawn game. Walker sent in one which found the net for Golds, and Dunn added another goal a, few minutes later with a “stinger”. Karori continued to offer stout resistance, but the Golds were not to be denied and before half-time McKee (2) and Hayes (2) had added to the Gold’s total, the half-time scores being. Golds (6), Karori (0). The second half saw Karori disputing every inch of ground to such good effect that only two more goals were added to Gold’s score per medium of Kirkman, whilst Shuker managed to find the net for Karori on one occasion, a good game ending in Gold’s favour by 8 goals to 1. Kirkman, Walker and .McKee were outstanding players for the winners. Rouse and Shuker doing good work for Karori. Messrs. Burns and Griffiths refereed. PIRATES AND UNITED WHITE The game between I’irates and United White was productive of some good class hockey by both teams. Pirates were at a slight disadvantage, bavin* to play with only ten men, and only sound defence by Wilcock saved the side on several occasions. The half-time Score was I—l, Fitzmaurice goaliug for Whites and Stitt for Pirates. “ The second half found both teams striving hard to notch the winning goal, Pirates having several close calls, but the defence held and the game ended in a draw I—l.1 —1.
