BYRD’S DEPARTURE
N.Z.’s Help Appreciated By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 14. • Ainiral R. E. Byrd, who arrived at Wellington this morning, will depart to-morrow by the Rangitiki for Balboa, where he will join the Jacob Ruppert for the return of the expedi* tion to the United States. ; In an interview to-night he expressed great appreciation to the New Zealand Government for the facilities extended in furtherance of his scientific mission. The American people would also appreciate what had been done for the ex pedition. When he returned to the United States and reported to them the great friendship the Government am* private people had shown, it would, he believed, make for even better under 3 standing between New Zealand and the United States. It was most gratifying to the expedition to find that the New Zealand Government had recognised their efforts tor science.
