Meeting of Town Board BATHING FACILITIES The monthly meeting of the Taradaie Town Board was held last night. Present: Messrs J. Wainscott (in the chair), W. H. C. Howard J. Gilmoui, J. A. Wilkinson and G. Webb. Leave of absence was granted to Mr J. Williamson and Mr F. 0. Anderson. The board agreed to support the protest that is being made by the Christchurch City Council against the provisions of the Mortgage Corporation Bill. It was decided to grant the Taradaie Hockey Club the use of certain grounds on the Taradaie Park for the copjing season on the same conditions that applied last year. The Taradaie School Committee wrote regarding the provision of better bathing facilities for tho Taradaie district. The committee suggested that the board should convene a meeting of all interested to discuss the question aud endeavour to formulate a scheme which would meet the needs of the community. The matter was deterred until the chairman returned from holiday, but in the meantime certain information is to be obtained. Mr H. Aiderton wrote atfcing that certain improvements be carried out in El bourne street. The matter waa left in the hands of the clerk to do certain work with the finance available. It was decided to write to the Hawke’s Bay Automobile Association expressing the board s thanks for tnc erection on a signpost on the laradale road at the intersection of the Wcttshore embankment indicating the direction to the Taradaie motor camping grounds. In connection with the renaming of the main road Mr H. E. Ellis wrote suggesting that from Auckland road to th<* Soldiers’ Memorial it bo nam‘d Memorial Avenue and from the Memorial to the Redclyfle bridge as Redclytfe road. The board, in confirming its previous resolution to rename the road Gloucester street, decided to write thanking Mr Ellis for his suggestion. The clerk and overseer reported that repairs to the bitumen sealing on the main highway had been carried out ami Lees road had been prepared in readiness for tar-sealing. Several of the street name plates which had been made had been erected. Attention to the rubbish dump was urgently needed as refute was being left on the roadside by person* which the board’s employees had to shovel over the bank. The practice of dumping certain retuse causing an obnoxious smell would have to be discontinued. Residents could greatly assist in the collection of the rubbish in the township by having proper receptacles and by placing them out on the road by eight o’clock on the mornings oi co - lection. In connection with the rubbish dump, tho board decided to take action against persons leaving rubbish on tho roadside instead of depotiug it over the bank. The ranger reported having impounded 3o head of stock during the month, 32 of which were taken off the county roads.
