ABATTOIRS STRIKE
— Brisbane Men to Resume Work (Received 14, 1.0 p m.) BRISBANE, March 14. A mart, meeting of unionists c<*neerned Tn the abattoirs strike decided to accept the recommendation of the strike committee and the men will return to work immediately. Ihis is the outcome oi an order issued by the Industrial Court. Hie men must return by March 21. • The president ol the Meat Employees’ Union said that no union could stand against the Government Court and public opinion. A message on March 6 stated that the abattoirs strike, which had then lasted three weeks had cost the State about £78,000. llie strike was having a serious effect on the chilled meat industry. Five ships had been turned away without freights. The stoppage of cupplies of chilled beef in the early stages of the development of this trade was expe< ted to do inestimable damage in the United Kingdom, where guaranteed continuity ol supplies was essential.
